About Ryan Cullen, the "Moet Hennessy Master"
Ryan started his career in the wine business haphazardly. While going to college at the University of South Florida and majoring in Business, as well as Communications, he got a part time job in the wine cellar at the famous Berns Steakhouse (home of the largest collection of wine for any restaurant in the world.) Ryan was quickly bitten by the preverbal "wine bug" after tasting many of the Bordeaux, Burgundy, and other great old world wines in the Berns cellar. The former Wine Director from Berns, Mike Rugers, noticed Ryan's enthusiasm for learning and allowed him to blind taste at the end of each shift, personally quizzing him and thus expanding his wine knowledge. Rugers would become a mentor and would help Ryan advance to various roles within the industry later in his life.
After graduation from USF, Ryan was encouraged to take the introductory Court of Master Sommeliers exam. Although very passionate about wine, Ryan was not sold on the idea of a career in the wine industry. After taking the introductory exam and obtaining a perfect score (which was the best anyone did that year and also for his age at 23) Ryan decided to advance his certification and was on the path to be one of the youngest Master Sommeliers. With this experience under his belt, Ryan began his wine industry career with Stacole, who was known for their small production wines.
Cullen knew, after working for Stacole for a year, that he needed to branch out and experience many different roles within the industry in order to be successful and continue his growth. In the following years he would go on to a supplier role with Southern, a Sommelier/Buyer for restaurants and retail stores, a consultant and eventually the Beverage Director for Danny DeVito’s restaurant in South Beach. Eventually, Ryan came back to the supplier/distributor side of the business, securing a role with Moet Hennessy. He was especially enthusiastic about this opportunity because of his love for Champagne and mainly Krug. He worked as the South Florida Portfolio manager from 2011 until 2016 when he moved to Orlando to take on a role managing the Champagne portfolio for all of North and Central FL. Ryan currently manages the Champagne portfolio from his home base in Tampa, FL. Ryan is extremely grateful to represent these amazing brands.
